We offer 2-hour sessions covering dancing, singing, acting and audition skills. Alongside performance, we also look at the technical side of theatre. During our performing arts shows some of our older children get to put these skills into practice by helping with the lighting and music.
Performing Arts can assist young people in finding confidence in presenting themselves to the world in whatever career they choose to pursue. It can assist with communication, coordination, lateral thinking, problem-solving and also be a great stress release and energy burner!
In 2012 we started the performing arts classes with only a handful of children. In April 2013 our first full production, Bugsy Malone, was a sell-out. Since then we have grown to having 60 children over two nights.
All children who come to performing arts classes get to take part in showcases throughout the year. We also give every child that wants to a chance to audition for a main part. If they don't get a main part, they will be given a smaller part as well as a part in the chorus. Alongside getting involved in our shows, students can also take Musical Theatre exams with the IDTA. We have also attended workshops in London with cast members from Matilda and Wicked.
