Everyone participating in dance and movement should feel comfortable, safe and able to participate without risk or injury. Here are a few guidelines we would encourage everyone at Ecco Dance Studios to follow:
• Before participating in your first dance class, please fill in a registration form stating name, date of birth, contact and emergency telephone numbers, and any known medical conditions.
• Please inform the teacher of any injuries or if you are pregnant, at the beginning of the class.
• An incident book will be kept on the premises to record injuries or serious incidents.
• Make sure your clothing is comfortable and not restrictive. Wear appropriate footwear for your chosen class, or bare feet.
• No jewellery to be worn.
• No eating or chewing during class.
• Take a bottle of water into class to keep you hydrated, especially on hot days.
• Please ensure all personal belongings and outdoor clothing are stored in a safe place to avoid hazards.
• Warm up. Each session will start with a warm up. This is extremely important. It prepares the body for physical exercise. If you arrive late, you are responsible for warming yourself up.
• Cool down. Each session will end with a cool down. This prevents any muscular pain or injury.
• We will be encouraging correct posture throughout our classes and will constantly be reminding you to check your own posture.
• We will be striving for the correct technique, for each dance style. You will be observed and corrected if necessary. Please don't be afraid to ask if you are unsure of anything.
• Know your own body's limitations. If you feel dizzy or severe pain, stop.
• Everyone learns at a different pace, so don't worry if you don't pick it up straight away.
• Be responsible. Show respect to your teachers and other members of the class.
• No very young pupil will be allowed to leave the school premises until collected by a parent, guardian or other adult authorised to do so by a parent or guardian. A member of staff will remain on the premises until all pupils have left.
• Relax and have fun.
